Artist Statement:
There is a mystery to be teased out from common objects encountered during ordinary life. There are images just beyond the periphery of our visual grasp; their translucent structure or organic form reveals shapes and shadows that at first glance go unnoticed and require a second look.
In these works, I use the photographic process to explore the space between painting and photography to create organically found shapes that camera based work is unable to produce. The pieces will be from my "Eucalyptus Speaks" series. During my meditative walks on the trails in Portola Valley, I often pause among by eucalyptus trees. I find beauty beneath my feet among the bark offered by these trees. In their scattered way, they look like paintings, and they stop my pace as their grace takes shape, leaving its mark on me.
These images are made using a camera-less darkroom technique and are inspired by the beauty of the eucalyptus and the grace of Japanese brushstroke painting.
